Sō Percussion, in collaboration with Caroline Shaw, is set to open Lawrence University's 2024-25 Performing Arts Series on October 18. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel and will feature Eric Cha-Beach, Josh Quillen, Adam Sliwinski, and Jason Treuting alongside Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw.
The ensemble Sō Percussion has been known for redefining chamber music over the past two decades. Their work spans a diverse range of collaborations across classical music, pop, indie rock, contemporary dance, and theater. They are also recognized for their contributions to education and community through creating opportunities for artists to explore artistic possibilities.
Their ongoing collaboration with Shaw includes a new collection of songs that will be presented along with pieces from the Grammy Award-winning song cycle "Narrow Sea" and the co-composed album "Let the Soil Play its Simple Part."
Caroline Shaw is noted for her extensive collaborations across various roles and genres. She won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Music for "Partita for 8 Voices" and received a Grammy Award in 2022 for Best Contemporary Classical Composition for "Narrow Sea," marking her fourth Grammy win. Her collaborative works include projects with Rosalía, Nas, Renée Fleming, and Yo-Yo Ma.
This performance marks the beginning of Lawrence's Performing Arts Series for 2024-25 which promises a variety of musical genres including chamber music and jazz. A highlight of the series will be a return performance by Roomful of Teeth on April 4, 2025.
Tickets are priced at $30 for adults and $25 for seniors at Memorial Chapel performances; Harper Hall tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. Students can attend free with a school ID. Season tickets offer a customizable series of four or more concerts with a 15% discount. Tickets can be purchased through Lawrence’s box office via phone or email.
