University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Chancellor Andrew Leavitt recently presented the Chancellor’s Medallion to John and Tashia Morgridge, founders of the Fund for Wisconsin Scholars. The ceremony took place during their visit to the university on October 7.
The Fund for Wisconsin Scholars has provided significant financial support to students at UW Oshkosh. Since 2014, 766 students have benefited from these grants, totaling over $2.8 million in funding over the past decade.
Chancellor Leavitt emphasized the impact of the Morgridges' contributions: “John and Tashia understand that our students’ stability and success is ultimately our city’s, our region’s and our state’s success,” he said. He added that every student helped toward graduation is a win for them, their families, and Wisconsin.
A dinner event was held on October 7 for current and prospective recipients of the Fund's grants. About 140 students attended to learn more about the Morgridges' story and their motivation behind establishing the fund in 2007 with a $175 million gift. The fund aims to provide need-based grants to graduates of Wisconsin public high schools attending University of Wisconsin four-year colleges, reducing college barriers and lightening student debt burdens.
Chancellor Leavitt stated that both the mission of the fund and its founders are deserving of recognition through this medallion. The Chancellor’s Medallion honors individuals who make significant contributions to various sectors such as education, public health, or social justice.
“The medallion also reflects the history and aspirations of UW Oshkosh,” Leavitt noted. “It recognizes the power of individuals to make a difference."
