Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has announced a series of proposed gun control measures following a tragic school shooting near the Capitol. The incident, which occurred five weeks ago, resulted in the deaths of a teacher and a 14-year-old student. The 15-year-old shooter subsequently took her own life.

Governor Evers is advocating for universal background checks on all gun purchases and seeks to reinstate a 48-hour waiting period for these transactions, reversing a repeal by Republicans in 2015. Additionally, he proposes banning "ghost guns" and closing loopholes that currently allow domestic abusers to possess firearms.

Evers is also pushing for new incentives and requirements aimed at ensuring firearms are safely secured. A "red flag" law is part of his proposal, which would empower judges to confiscate guns from individuals deemed to be risks to themselves or others.

Republican leaders in the legislature have indicated they will reject all of the proposed gun control measures.
