Leaked information reported by the New York Times and shared by pro-gun YouTubers, including Jared of Guns & Gadgets and Braden Langley, suggests that Pam Bondi is considering recommending a "non-ideological" candidate for the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The candidate in question is described as an "older, more seasoned law enforcement officer," with a shortlist allegedly comprising several former and current top ATF officials.
The Gun Owners of America (GOA) has expressed strong opposition to this potential nomination. They argue that such an appointment would be detrimental to Second Amendment rights. They cite President Biden's ATF head Steven Dettelbach as an example of an "older, non-ideological, more seasoned law enforcement officer" who led initiatives perceived as restrictive to gun ownership rights.
The GOA also recalls previous nominations under President Trump, including David Chipman and Chuck Canterbury, both of whom faced opposition from their members due to their perceived anti-gun stances. The organization argues against appointing another experienced bureaucrat without a strong understanding of the Second Amendment.
The GOA is calling on its supporters to urge President Trump to appoint a strict constitutionalist who comprehends firearms issues and opposes what they describe as the ATF's war on the Second Amendment.
