On August 15, 2025, Oshkosh North High School held a ceremony to rename its fieldhouse in honor of Frank Schade, the school's former boys basketball head coach. The facility is now known as the Frank Schade Fieldhouse.

Frank Schade led the Oshkosh North boys basketball team from 1986 to 2017. During his tenure, he guided the Spartans to five conference championships and five state tournament appearances. His overall coaching record at Oshkosh North was 437 wins and 234 losses.

The dedication event featured remarks from several speakers, including current ONHS Boys Basketball Head Coach Brad Weber, Oshkosh Area School District Superintendent Dr. Bryan Davis, Hall of Fame Coach Tom Desotell from Sheboygan North, athletic director Craig Lieder, and former players Frank Seckar (class of '92), Nathan Neveau ('13), and NBA player Tyrese Haliburton ('18).

“We’re here to recognize one of the greatest coaches who has ever walked the sidelines,” said Brad Weber. “Coach has inspired all of us to go on to do great things - even when we’re not wearing the North logo.”

Dr. Bryan Davis spoke about Schade’s influence beyond athletics: “I believe the greatest gift Coach Schade provided for students that he influenced was his ability to teach people how to compete with effort, attitude, and toughness - to get better every single day.”

Craig Lieder noted Schade’s impact on his teams: “Coach got more out of his players than they ever thought they had in themselves - and that’s what made him a great coach,” Lieder said. “It’s very fitting to name the fieldhouse after the man who has spent more time in this gym than anyone else.”

Tyrese Haliburton credited much of his personal growth to lessons learned under Schade: “A lot of the life skills and things that I have been able to enjoy today have come from the lessons that I’ve learned from Coach Schade,” he shared. “Everything was earned here. Nothing was ever given. He instilled in me that if I wanted to get something, I would have to earn it.”

During his remarks at the ceremony, Frank Schade acknowledged Tyrese Haliburton's work ethic and success as a former player. He encouraged young athletes in attendance by emphasizing hard work as essential for improvement.

Schade described his approach at Oshkosh North: “At North, we had a basketball philosophy of earning and trying to build life skills within the program,” he explained. “Be on time, work hard each practice, work hard each game, earn a uniform, earn the right to play, earn a starting position. If the work doesn’t get done right, you might lose those opportunities - but that’s also what life is about.”

He thanked assistant coaches John Cameron, Brad Weber, and Rick Leib for their support over three decades with the program and highlighted how consistency among staff contributed to team success.

Before concluding his speech by thanking family members and friends for their support throughout his career at Oshkosh North High School, Schade recognized all past players: “The players are the real reason for this celebration. They were the ones competing every week, every game - in my opinion, in the toughest conference in the state of Wisconsin.” He added: “I just loved to watch and coach these players with this competitive spirit year-after-year. No matter what our record, if you were going to play an Oshkosh North team, you were in for a battle.”

As part of improvements unveiled during Friday's event—including new signage—scoreboards and video displays were installed thanks largely to a $3 million donation over three years from Tyrese Haliburton.

The newly named Frank Schade Fieldhouse will serve future generations as both an athletic venue and community gathering space.
