Three faculty members at Lawrence University have been awarded tenure appointments for 2024. The appointments were approved by President Laurie Carter and the college’s Board of Trustees, following recommendations from the faculty Committee on Tenure, Promotion, Reappointment, and Equal Employment Opportunity. Ann Ellsworth (music), Julie Rana (mathematics), and Andrew Sage (statistics) will be promoted to associate professor at the start of the 2024-25 academic year.

Provost and Dean of Faculty Peter Blitstein expressed his satisfaction with the appointments: “I am very happy indeed that these three colleagues have been awarded tenure. These distinguished faculty members together represent the kind of teacher-scholars who make Lawrence a leading national liberal arts college and conservatory.”

Ann Ellsworth has been a horns professor in the Conservatory of Music since 2018. Her career includes roles as a teacher, soloist, recording artist, and chamber musician. She studied at Eastman and Juilliard schools and furthered her education in Oslo and St. Petersburg, Russia. Ellsworth's recordings span solo projects like "EUPHORIA" and ensemble work such as a 2022 project with the Lawrence Graduate Bayreuth Tuben Quintet. She is also known for her international tours with various ensembles and was a founding member of the New Music and Culture Symposium.

Julie Rana joined Lawrence University's mathematics faculty in 2017. Her research focuses on algebraic geometry, particularly moduli spaces, singular algebraic surfaces, deformation theory, and computational methods. In 2021, she received a $192,905 grant from the National Science Foundation’s LEAPS-MPS program to support her research in algebraic geometry related to moduli spaces. This grant facilitated collaborations with scholars globally and allowed student involvement in graph theory research during summer sessions.

Andrew Sage has been part of Lawrence University since 2018, contributing significantly to statistical machine learning, applied statistics, sports analytics, and statistics education within the Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science Department. He played an essential role in launching a data science minor in 2020 and helped develop new courses in data science-related fields. Sage holds degrees from the College of Wooster, Iowa State University, Miami University.
