The outfield trio of Lawrence University's baseball team, Edan Perez, Parker Knoll, and Jacob Charon, have led the Vikings to an impressive season. Perez transformed his appearance by dyeing his hair blonde, aligning with his fellow outfielders and earning them the nickname "The Blonde Bombers". The trio has hit a combined .432 with 36 doubles, five triples, 42 home runs and 164 runs batted in over 39 games this spring.
Lawrence University recently clinched the Midwest Conference title and is set to host the MWC Tournament. The winner of this four-team, double-elimination tournament will secure an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Knoll said about their performance: "We've seen flashes of it from all three of us. We're finally all doing it together all the time. It's special that we're able to hit as well as we can at the same time."
Charon leads the team with a .493 batting average and has tied his own school record with 61 RBIs. He attributes his success to increased focus during training sessions.
Perez has been hitting .405 with 12 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 53 RBIs while transitioning from third base to the outfield. Knoll rounds out the trio with a .403 average this spring along with excellent defensive skills.
Lawrence head coach Chris Krepline praised his players' consistency and adaptability as they continue to improve their game. As teams try different strategies against them, each player adjusts accordingly.
The players' competitive nature also fuels their success according to Krepline who said: "They walk to the plate with a very good approach. In their minds, they simplify things and ultimately, they're great competitors."
The Vikings aim not only for victory in the upcoming tournament but also for making history by winning games at the regional level - something never achieved before in the program's history.
