Lawrence University is mourning the loss of Robert “Bob” Schaupp ’51, a trustee emeritus who passed away at the age of 95 on April 15. Schaupp, a longtime supporter of Lawrence University, played a pivotal role in various capacities, including his significant contributions to Björklunden, the university’s Door County retreat.

Schaupp's dedication to Lawrence spanned over four decades, during which he served in several key roles. He was remembered by Cal Husmann, senior principal gifts officer, who remarked, "Bob made an impact on his alma mater in a way and degree to which few have."

Throughout his illustrious career, Schaupp not only excelled in the business world but also devoted his time and resources to the betterment of Lawrence University. His commitment to Björklunden was particularly noteworthy, with his instrumental involvement in fundraising and reconstruction efforts. Schaupp's leadership was instrumental in the successful completion of various projects, including the reconstruction of the lodge after a fire and the expansion of its facilities to meet the needs of students.

Apart from his contributions to Björklunden, Schaupp and his wife, Joan, also established endowment funds and scholarships at Lawrence University, showcasing their unwavering support for the institution and its students. Their legacy of generosity and dedication to Lawrence University continues through the Schaupp Family Scholarship, which provides support to students pursuing careers in economics and business.

Schaupp's impact extended beyond his philanthropic endeavors, as he remained connected to the Lawrence community through mentorship and leadership, particularly within the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. His family's ties to Lawrence further exemplify their deep-rooted connection to the university, with his daughter and son-in-law also being proud alumni.

The passing of Robert Schaupp has left a void in the Lawrence University community, but his enduring legacy of service, generosity, and commitment to education will continue to inspire future generations of students and supporters.
