The Oshkosh Area School District has devised a plan to navigate the airport zoning restrictions that affect South Park Middle School. These restrictions, introduced by Winnebago County in 2023, prohibit school construction or expansion within airport runway and departure zones. Consequently, South Park cannot be expanded or rebuilt at its current location.

To address this issue, the district proposes constructing a new consolidated middle school at the Shapiro STEM Academy site instead of the South Park Middle School site. Additionally, a pre-kindergarten center will be established at Perry Tipler Middle School rather than at the Shapiro site.

This proposal aims to prioritize student safety while aligning with the district's objectives for westside school consolidation and maintaining a commitment to a $0 tax increase.

The Board of Education is scheduled to discuss this proposal on January 8. If approved, an April 1 referendum question may follow, accompanied by comprehensive community-wide information sessions.

Further details and resources are provided in the district update titled "OASD Updates Phase 2 of Facilities Plan - New Solution - Family Letter 1.3.25."
