The Lawrence University community is preparing for the Blue & White Homecoming Weekend, set to take place on November 1-2. The event will bring together students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and supporters for a series of activities including athletics, music and theater performances, a homecoming dance, and a tailgate party.
Matt Baumler, associate vice president of Alumni and Constituency Engagement, expressed the significance of the event: “What does it mean to be a Lawrentian? Blue & White Homecoming Weekend has all the answers. It’s the ultimate celebration of our community, bringing together students, faculty, and staff with alumni, parents, and friends. And we do that through sport, music, performance, tradition, laughter, and lots of blue and white.”
Athletic events are scheduled throughout Saturday with four Vikings teams competing. Men's and women's cross country will host the Midwest Conference Championship at Reid Golf Course at 11 a.m., while men's soccer faces Grinnell at Banta Bowl also at 11 a.m. Women's soccer will play against Grinnell at 1:30 p.m., followed by Lawrence football versus University of Chicago at 5 p.m.
In addition to sports competitions, several other highlights are planned for the weekend. The men's basketball teams from 2003-04 through 2005-06 will be inducted into the Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of their achievements during those years.
The weekend's schedule includes "Working," the Fall Term musical presented in Stansbury Theater on Friday evening and twice on Saturday; "150th Crescendo: Convergence – New Music Concert" featuring premieres by Lawrence flute and trombone ensembles on Friday night; as well as various social gatherings such as Blu’s Central on Saturday morning.
A presentation by true crime author Harry MacLean ’64 is set for Saturday morning in Warch Campus Cinema. The day continues with Vikings Tailgate festivities leading up to the football game kickoff in Banta Bowl. A Cheer x Dance Campfire will conclude Saturday evening activities with snacks around a bonfire.
