Ryan Sprenger, a University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (UWO) alumnus and biology researcher, was recently featured on the Star Talk Radio podcast. The episode aired on September 20 and was hosted by renowned astrophysicist and science communicator Neil deGrasse Tyson.

The discussion centered around hibernation for deep spaceflight, a topic that has been the focus of research by UWO-connected scientists. Sprenger, who holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in biology from UWO, is currently working with the biotech firm FaunaBio LLC. The company has maintained a research lab partnership with UWO since 2022.

Sprenger's work involves studying ground squirrels at UWO to understand how their hibernation patterns could inform human space exploration. His research has received funding from NASA.
