On Thursday, May 16, the Oshkosh Area School District's Riverside Alternative Education Program celebrated its 2024 Graduate Recognition Ceremony. The event, held at Fox Valley Technical College's Oshkosh campus, honored 51 outstanding seniors and attracted over 250 attendees including proud family members, friends, district staff, and community leaders.

The ceremony was a testament to perseverance and potential. Senior speakers reflected on their personal journeys, offering wisdom and encouragement to their peers. Guest speaker Lori Pameri, Wisconsin State Representative for District 54, praised the graduates' determination. She expressed confidence in their ability to effect positive change in their communities.

Greg Larson, a 2019 Riverside alumnus, delivered a powerful address. "Don't let anyone else decide what you're capable of achieving," he advised the soon-to-be-graduates. "You've already proven you can overcome obstacles."

As each student crossed the stage to receive their certificate amidst cheers and applause, teachers highlighted their unique strengths and academic achievements. The Class of 2024 demonstrated the grit and commitment that are hallmarks of success in the student-centered Riverside program.

The partnership with Fox Valley Technical College offers an alternative education environment tailored to individual learning needs. In addition to core subjects like English, math, and science, students gain real-world experience through volunteer opportunities and career exploration. They also develop vital skills such as adaptability, critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication - tools for lifelong growth.

The resilient paths of Riverside's Class of 2024 illustrate that there are many routes to achievement. As these graduates prepare to make their mark on the world, their community celebrates the invaluable perspectives and abilities they will contribute.
