Oshkosh Area School District Superintendent Bryan Davis (2023) | Oshkosh Area School District
The Oshkosh Area School District's literacy committee has been diligently working on developing a shared understanding of comprehensive curriculum and high-quality teaching and learning in literacy this spring. Comprised of teachers, coordinators, administrators, and community members, the committee is actively providing input and feedback as the district explores options and plans for a K-5 literacy curriculum pilot for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
During the committee's third meeting on March 8th, presentations were made by three curriculum vendors: Amplify CKLA, Savvas Learning MyView, and Benchmark Advance. The committee members evaluated the proposed materials using the district's established desired literacy curriculum components.
In the subsequent meeting on March 21st, the committee delved into the current state of literacy within the district, considering student achievement data, classroom observations, and teacher experiences. They compared this information to the desired future state and instructional vision. Additionally, the group identified scalable conditions and strategies that could lead to improved literacy results and shared joint aspirations for high-quality literacy teaching and learning.
As the committee approaches its final meeting in April, it will wrap up its review of curriculum options. In the last session, members will discuss plans for piloting new curriculum materials in the 2024-2025 school year and explore opportunities to engage in implementing the selected curriculum across K-5 classrooms.
