Bonnie Laird ’64, a dedicated supporter of Lawrence University, passed away on June 13, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of philanthropy and impact on the university community. Described as a loyal and generous Lawrentian, Bonnie's contributions to Lawrence were extensive and far-reaching.
Peter Betzer ’64, a classmate of Bonnie Laird, paid tribute to her by highlighting her instrumental role in organizing successful fundraising and reunion projects. He recalled the efforts they both put into encouraging classmates to attend reunions, resulting in record-breaking achievements for the Class of '64. Betzer emphasized Bonnie's dedication and the significant impact she had on their class reunions, stating that "SHE DID IT ALL."
Moreover, Bonnie's involvement in establishing the Leveraging Lawrence Faculty Initiatives (LLFI) program showcased her commitment to supporting faculty and academic programs at Lawrence University. Through this initiative, Bonnie and her classmates aimed to build an endowment to cover matching funds required for faculty grants. Despite initial skepticism, their efforts resulted in the creation of a substantial endowment exceeding $900,000, benefiting 23 faculty members over the past decade.
