Andrew Leavitt, the outgoing chancellor of the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh, was honored at the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents meeting in Milwaukee on June 5, 2025. During the meeting, Leavitt delivered a farewell address to the board.

Leavitt expressed gratitude for his decade-long tenure as chancellor and reflected on his family's educational journey. "Of the time spent in higher education, no one would be prouder and more surprised than my parents," he stated. He highlighted how education has been a catalyst in his family's progress over generations.

He emphasized the role of higher education as an elevator of human potential and its importance as an engine of democracy. "While it does not guarantee success for anyone who has gone before, it certainly increases the probability of a more fulfilling and prosperous life," he remarked.

Leavitt thanked various individuals and groups who supported him during his tenure. He acknowledged several Regents for their guidance and support, including Jerry Whitburn, Michael Grebe, Ed Manydeeds, Karen Walsh, and Ashok Rai. Leavitt noted that under Regent Rai's leadership, UWO is set to finish its fiscal year in good financial standing.

He also expressed appreciation for past presidents Ray Cross and Tommy Thompson for their support during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, he thanked current President Jay Rothman for his leadership in restoring UWO's financial stability.

Leavitt concluded by expressing excitement about passing leadership to Dr. Manohar Singh as UWO’s next chancellor. He also shared personal thanks to his wife for her support throughout his career.
