Shirley Mae Kemerer White, a prominent figure in the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh community, passed away on March 15, 2025, at the age of 97. White was a dedicated educator, teaching physical education, nutrition, and dance, while her husband, Bob White, coached the Titans men’s basketball team.

Her impressive 55-year teaching career began with math and physical education in Ohio. The couple moved to Wisconsin, becoming influential figures at UWO. Shirley White was well-regarded for inviting students who couldn't go home for school breaks to their residence for meals. Her nutrition classes often involved students cooking healthy dinners at their home, as detailed in her obituary from Bradshaw Funeral Home-Stillwater.

A former student, Margaret Keehn, remembered White's dance classes that covered everything from the waltz to the tango. Keehn persuaded White to teach the dorms the cha cha while serving as a residence adviser in 1973. Another former student remarked on the Whites' mentoring role at UWO, recounting visits to the couple in Minnesota, where they shared rounds of golf and lunches.

White is survived by her daughter, Carol Hustad (John), two granddaughters, and a brother. Her husband, Bob, to whom she was married for 70 years, preceded her in death. A memorial service took place in Stillwater, Minnesota, on March 27.

Memorial gifts were encouraged to be sent to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater or the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Foundation, specifically for the Men’s Basketball Fund. Donations can be made through the foundation's website or sent via check to the foundation's address in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
