The Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) Board of Education has approved a reduction in the school tax levy for the 2024-2025 period. The board decided to lower the overall school tax levy by 5.05% compared to the previous year, resulting in a decrease of $3,509,585. This decision coincides with high ratings for Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West high schools, which ranked among the top three in their region.

Beth Wyman, OASD Board of Education President, commented on this development: "We understand and take seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars, especially during challenging economic times." She emphasized that the reduction aims to ease financial burdens on the community while maintaining educational standards.

The reduction was achieved through increased state aid and decreased operational costs. The district's strategic prepayment of debt and savings from consolidating facilities under Phase 1 of a four-phase plan contributed to these outcomes.

Dr. Bryan Davis, OASD Superintendent, highlighted the importance of this move: "This substantial tax levy reduction reflects our commitment to responsible financial management while continuing to advance our educational mission." He explained that reducing tax bills is part of a broader strategy that balances financial planning with educational goals.

The district plans to continue its facilities improvement initiatives without imposing additional tax burdens. Dr. Davis added: "Through careful financial planning, our school board created a foundation that allows us to continue implementing our facilities improvement plans while working to maintain stable tax rates."

The OASD's approach underscores its dedication to managing resources efficiently while upholding education quality. The benefits from strategic debt management and facility consolidation are expected to positively impact the Oshkosh community in the long term.
