The Oshkosh Area School District Education Foundation and Community Clothes Closet have partnered to provide essential winter clothing to students in need within the Oshkosh public school system. This initiative aims to ensure that children are adequately dressed for Wisconsin's cold winters.

With 54% of elementary students in the district, nearly 2,000 children, coming from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, many families face difficulties affording necessary winter gear. The initiative has been bolstered by a $10,000 grant from the J.J. Keller Foundation to the Community Clothes Closet. However, additional funds are still needed.

The OASD Education Foundation is working to raise an extra $5,000 to broaden the program's reach. "Every child deserves to be warm and comfortable during the winter months," stated Theresa Duren, Director of the OASD Education Foundation. "By ensuring students have proper winter gear, we're not just keeping them warm—we're promoting their health and ability to focus on learning, regardless of the weather."

Community members are encouraged to contribute through donations. The campaign runs until October 31, 2024. Contributions can be made online, with every donation helping towards achieving the goal.

The initial grant will equip approximately 200 students with snow boots and pants. The foundation aims to raise more funds to provide additional items like waterproof gloves and mittens.
