UW Oshkosh honors nine employees with STAR Awards in 2024

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has recognized nine individuals with the STAR Award in 2024, honoring their exceptional contributions to the university community. These awards acknowledge staff members who exceed expectations in their roles.

In October, Deanne Kinateder, a teaching assistant at Head Start, was acknowledged for her willingness to support colleagues and engage positively with students and families. Ghazwa Chaar-Sankari noted, "Deanne has gone above her job responsibilities as a teacher assistant... She is willing to support and help at the center where there is need."

Kimberly Hansen received the award in September for her role as an administrative assistant in the College of Nursing. Kathleen Wren praised her efforts: "Kimberly has embraced her position as the face of the Doctor of Nursing Practice-Nurse Anesthesia Emphasis... Kimberly continually strives to make our processes more seamless."

Alli Kunde was honored in August for taking on additional responsibilities in the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor. Erin Van Lyssel highlighted her dedication: "Alli has taken on so much responsibility... She has done amazing at keeping track of all those duties on top of her regular job duties."

June's recipient, Lauren Burgbacher from UARC Academic Advising, was commended by Renee Simpson for being instrumental in supporting staff and students: "Lauren is like the glue that keeps all things in order... she comes to my aid and everyone else’s (with a smile)."

Gigi Valenza earned May's award for her custodial work at Polk Library. Samantha Goldben expressed appreciation: "Gigi has become a valued member of the library... Gigi has deep cleaned every area of this building and she takes pride in her work."

April's honoree, Amy Rogge from criminal justice/public administration, was recognized by faculty members Matt Richie, Anna Filipova, and David Jones for mentoring students: "Amy went above and beyond her duties by directly mentoring an impressively large number of master of public administration students."

Christie Demosthenous received March's award for initiatives within the history department. Faculty members Gabe Loiacono and Michelle Kuhl remarked on her proactive approach: "Christie is an amazing department associate... One example is her initiative on advising."

February saw Erin Johnson from the College of Business being awarded for streamlining services during significant changes. Jennifer Buelow Fischer stated: "Erin went above and beyond by working with several colleagues across campus to streamline our new shared services model."

Finally, Corey Konrad was named January's recipient for his positive attitude within Custodial Services. Timothy Paulsen noted his teamwork spirit: "Corey routinely assists with covering additional areas and events with a smile... He has proven to be an invaluable member of the custodial team."

These awards highlight outstanding contributions across various departments at UW Oshkosh.
