Kate Demerse has been appointed as the new associate vice chancellor for campus life and dean of students at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (UWO), effective August 1. Demerse brings an extensive background in student affairs leadership, a commitment to student success, and a vision for fostering a supportive campus environment.

Demerse holds a master’s degree in student affairs administration in higher education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She is set to complete her doctorate in education in student affairs administration and leadership from the same institution in May 2025.

With over 15 years of experience in higher education administration within the Universities of Wisconsin system, Demerse has demonstrated her ability to make student-focused decisions. Before joining UWO, she served as the Dean of Students and Senior Student Affairs Officer at UW-Platteville. There, she played a crucial role in enhancing student services, leading threat assessment and response teams, developing institutional policies centered on students, and creating comprehensive support programs.

In her new position at UWO, Demerse will oversee several departments including the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources, Residence Life and Dining Services, Student Health and Wellness, the Center for Student Success and Belonging, Student Leadership and Engagement, Reeve Student Union, and student care and conduct.
