In early May, students enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) courses at Oshkosh West High School had the opportunity to meet with local experts in the medical and automotive fields.

On May 8, 2024, students in medical science and careers classes and those participating in nursing assistant training attended a healthcare career event. The community healthcare organizations involved included Miravida Living-Gabriel’s Villa, Aspire Senior Living, Eden Senior Care, Park View Health Center, Senior Stride Home Care, and Evergreen Retirement Community.

Medical science and careers students participated in a meet-and-greet with representatives from these organizations to ask questions and learn about job opportunities available while still in high school. Following this session, healthcare professionals conducted on-site mock interviews for nursing assistant training students—those aiming to become certified nursing assistants (CNAs)—to provide interview experience and help them develop employability skills for future healthcare-related careers.

The next day, on May 9, 2024, students enrolled in automotive technical education classes and those interested in the automotive industry were visited by two Oshkosh West alumni currently working at Quality Truck Care Center in the Fox Valley.

During their visit, students inspected a state-of-the-art dump truck stationed outside the Oshkosh West automotive workshop and learned about diesel technology through direct interaction with field experts. Representatives from Quality Truck Care Center also gave presentations about their company and outlined pathways for pursuing careers in the automotive industry.

These career and technical education guest visits at Oshkosh West High School provided students with hands-on learning experiences and professional insights directly from industry experts. Through these community partnerships, students gained practical knowledge about potential career pathways during and after high school.
