Two longtime psychology professors at Lawrence University are included in Research.com’s third edition of its ranking of top scholars in psychology.

The rankings, released in May, include Peter Glick, the Henry Merritt Wriston Professor of the Social Sciences and professor of psychology. He has been on the Lawrence faculty since 1985. The rankings also include professor emeritus Gerald Metalsky, who retired in 2021. He first joined the Lawrence faculty in 1992.

According to Research.com, the inclusion criteria for scholars to be considered for the ranking are based on the discipline D-index, the proportion of contributions made within the given discipline, and awards and achievements.

Peter Glick is a social psychologist whose sub-specialty is the study of prejudice. In 2022, he was honored by the Society of Experimental Social Psychology (SESP) for work that has “proven highly influential” over a long period of time. His scholarship includes groundbreaking theories on stereotype content, ambivalent sexism, and toxic organizational culture. He has authored more than 90 articles that have collectively been cited more than 60,000 times. His books include Sage Handbook of Prejudice and The Social Psychology of Gender.

Gerald Metalsky has specialized in the study of depression, stress, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and general psychotherapy. He has published more than 50 scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals and books and presented his work at more than 75 national conferences. A fellow of the American Psychological Society since 2009, he served for more than 15 years on the editorial board of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology. He also has served on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Psychological Association.
