In recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, the importance of mental health in overall well-being is being emphasized. The AASD, in a statement, emphasized the significance of supporting students' mental health and the value of collaboration with families and the community towards this goal.

The schools under the AASD prioritize students' problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and healthy behaviors through their health and social-emotional curriculums, along with their comprehensive school counseling program. According to the AASD, additional support may be necessary at times, and families are encouraged to explore their options to access the resources needed to support their child's mental wellness.

As part of promoting youth mental well-being, families are advised to adopt effective habits such as regular sleep, spending time outdoors, limiting screen time, and engaging in activities with trusted individuals. The emphasis is on continuous care and support for mental wellness, similar to physical wellness.

The AASD encourages families to take proactive steps in accessing the necessary support for their child's mental wellness, stating, "Start here to learn more about accessing support for your child."
