Lawrence University is gearing up to celebrate the achievements of nine distinguished alumni at the upcoming Reunion 2024 event. Among the honorees are individuals who have made significant contributions to their respective fields and communities.
One of the recipients, Donald Brunnquell ’74, will be posthumously awarded the George B. Walter ’36 Service to Society Award. Brunnquell, a licensed psychologist with a special interest in pediatric psychology and bioethics, dedicated his career to ethics in clinical and counseling psychology. Sadly, he passed away in December 2023, but his legacy lives on through his impactful work.
Cynthia Estlund ’78 will receive the Lucia Russell Briggs Distinguished Achievement Award for her outstanding contributions to the field of law. Estlund, a respected law professor, has spent decades teaching at esteemed law schools and has made significant research contributions in collective labor law, employment law, and workers' rights.
Adam Locke ’03 will be honored with the Marshall B. Hulbert ’26 Outstanding Service Award for his commitment to Lawrence and his groundbreaking work in genetic research. Locke's expertise lies in unraveling genomic complexities associated with various diseases, showcasing his dedication to advancing the field of science.
Rick Davis ’80 will receive the Gertrude Breithaupt Jupp M‐D'18 Outstanding Service Award for his contributions to the field of theater and drama. Davis, a professor and dean at George Mason University, has been recognized for his achievements in teaching and directing a wide range of productions.
Jill Manuel ’84, a multi-award-winning broadcast executive, will also be honored with the Gertrude Breithaupt Jupp M‐D'18 Outstanding Service Award for her leadership in digital integration in broadcast newsrooms. Manuel's innovative approach to storytelling has earned her accolades in the industry.
Bonnie Maas McClellan M-D’62 and Eileen Paulson Johnson M-D’66 will both be recognized with the Gertrude Breithaupt Jupp M‐D'18 Outstanding Service Award for their dedication to education and service in their respective fields.
Jacob George Allen ’03 will receive the Nathan M. Pusey Young Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award for his accomplishments in music performance and theatre. Allen's contributions to the arts have been widely recognized, and he continues to make a significant impact in his field.
Christina Balch ’03 will be honored with the George B. Walter ’36 Service to Society Award for her pioneering work in sustainable food systems and community equity. Balch's efforts to promote healthy eating and empower communities through agriculture education have made a lasting impression.
