Calumet County issued the following announcement on Feb 15.
Is your property protected from fraud? Property fraud occurs when someone illegally uses your property for financial gain. It happens when a fraudulent document is recorded in the county land records office, making it look like they own your home or property. According to the FBI, property and mortgage fraud is the fastest-growing white-collar crime.
To address these concerns, the Calumet County Register of Deeds Office has partnered with Property Fraud Alert, a notification service that is free for any resident that owns property in Calumet County. Tami Alten, Register of Deeds, notes that residents can subscribe free of charge at www.propertyfraudalert.com or call the Property Fraud Alert Hotline at 1-800-728-3858. This service will then notify you when a document is recorded with your name match.
For more information, please contact the Register of Deeds office at (920) 849-1441.
